Nutrition is the missing ingredient in home health today, new study shows

Latest research from the Advocate Health Care & Abbott noted that prioritizing the nutrition care at home pitched in dramatic impact when it comes to keeping them away from the hospital. This has resulted in saving millions in terms of healthcare expenses. Around 5 million patients in America rely annually on the home healthcare in order to recover from any illness.

While the healthcare providers have been working constantly to improve the health of the patients while minimizing hospitalizations, the nutrition factor isn’t the first choice. However, it plays an important role when it comes to aiding the adults to bounce back while resuming their everyday routine.

Around 1 out of 3 home-based patients run the risk of suffering from malnutrition which can heavily impact future recovery while introducing more health issues. However, malnutrition can go unrecognized given the fact that it is invisible to one’s eyes. Plus, malnutrition can take a toll over both overweight as well as underweight individuals. This is why more and more healthcare systems have started focusing on efforts that help identify and manage the malnourished patients via regular follow up and monitoring sessions.

Necessary nutrition education will help empower the patients to add all the required elements to their daily diets.
