Health is wealth, say schools as they include nutrition studies in curriculum

Many city schools have prohibited junk food in their premises and have also taken the decision to include nutrition studies as a part of their curriculum as an effort to inculcate good eating habits among students.

According to school managements and faculty members, this measure will help create awareness among the students to follow a healthy as well as balanced diet in the long run.

Bengaluru-based Delhi Public School is among the several other schools to have introduced a new course on preparing healthy as well as nutritious food. Starting this year, the school would concentrate on educating the students about the amount of calories in various foods and will also organise different workshops along with nutritionists.

In fact, a few schools such as National Public school also plans on introducing cooking sessions for the mid-school students in order to educate them about how to cook healthy food. While there are a few schools that have included nutrition as a part of their life skills program.

Students and parents both have welcomes such initiatives. Several students have adopted such lessons even at home. According to Smriti S from the DPS North, getting to learn about healthy foods at school helped her change the diet she followed at home as well.
